75% Whole Bunch Ferment
2019 Mitchell Harris Syrah – Trawalla Jack & Peerick Vineyards, Pyrenees
A blend from two vineyards: the Trawalla Jack Vineyard (80%) a cool and low yielding Shiraz vineyard nestled off the Western Highway between Ballarat and Beaufort, and the ever reliable Peerick Vineyard (20%) at Moonambel in the Pyrenees. Hand picked and fermented naturally with the inclusion of 75% whole bunches, the nose opens up with black and white pepper, aniseed and charcuterie notes. Plum and blackberry fruit with a hint of dried sage sweep across the palate with seamless velvety tannins providing great length and balance. Hand made out the back at Mitchell Harris wine bar in the heart of the Ballarat CBD. Has immediate appeal but will reward another 3 to 5 years in a cool cellar.
Trawalla Jack & Peerick Vineyard
A blend of shiraz from Trawalla (near the Pyrenees) and the Pyrenees areas. Red fruits, blue fruits, high, lifted spice, bitter chocolate, dried herbs. A firm, young shiraz - syrah - that fairly bounces with approachability right now. Chocolate-covered plums, sage, spice, potpourri with just a hint of garden mint, spearmint, thyme. It's all there in the glass, balanced and ready to go, but patience will be further rewarded. 93 Points
