2020 MH Pinot Noir

Wightwick Vineyard

Fine cool climate Pinot from the heart of western Victoria.

"Fresh ruby. It's always interesting to see how a sparkling winemaker approaches a grape like pinot noir. John Harris, ex Domaine Chandon, understands nuance from his sparkling training and delivers it. Fine-boned with black cherry, rhubarb, dried flowers, bay leaf. Comes together nicely on the palate with a kind of crystalline cranberry presence." Jeni Port on the 2018 Pinot - Halliday Wine Companion

Notes

Fermented with 25% whole bunches

From the Wightwick vineyard at Invermay in Ballarat. Ripe and lush bouquet of bright red cherry and blood plum fruits. A hint of stemmy spice and crunch, medium plus bodied with lingering earthy mushroom and sweet spices. Gently handled with 25% whole bunches and wild yeast fermentation. Matured in French oak barriques. The concentrated red fruit notes and flavours reflect the low yielding and mild 2020 vintage.

Clear, bright crimson-purple; a lovely pinot, Ballarat providing finesse and length to its array of red fruits, the perfume in the background sure to grow, the lingering finish a farewell kiss. It's a 50/50% choice of consumption tonight or in 5+ years time.
