For a second year, we’re thrilled to be awarded the top “Three-Glass” status for our wine bar wine list.
Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards began in 1994 to recognise and reward the enormous investment by owners in time, skill and resources that go into developing the best quality wine lists and to also recognise and reward the dedicated and talented sommeliers creating those lists for Australia’s restaurants, hotels, clubs, wine bars, pubs, cafes and brasseries – large and small.
This year the judges commented:
What a coup that a winery restaurant can see the benefit in scope and scale of their wine program beyond that of their cellar door. While Mitchell Harris wines are already of a serious standard, their kudos is only raised by the broad inclusion of interesting wines to complement their fine offering. Wines in this list tend to read like the sort of selections that winemakers make when they’re drinking away from their home turf, with fine pinot noir, cult producers, Piedmont’s tannic, medium weight reds, various iterations of chardonnay, and, of course, plenty of acid-driven riesling from marquee regions. It’s a list of bistro classics and edgier expressions, an assortment that speaks of care and consideration, plus an interest in diversifying consumers’ dining experiences. Seriously well done and kudos to John Harris and team for their brave step out of the spotlight.
Hopefully this nod to the quality of our list keeps the spotlight on the great producers of Western Victoria, and helps to keep lifting the bar of Ballarat’s food and wine quality.
